Impacting software development - one line at a time.

Linux Administration

Linux related Administration resources.

Documentation

  • Linux initial RAM disk (initrd) - Ever wonder what the heck an initrd is in Linux?  Read up and get a better understanding of what it is, why you need it, and a few lightbulbs will come on the next time you use Linux.

 Creating Distros

Windows Administration

Windows related Administration tools, utilities, links, sites, webcasts, or anything else I deem "useful".

System Administration

This section of the shortlist is for System Administration related subjects, how-tos, manuals, and the like. I realize there's a lot more than what I mention, but everything on my shortlists are things I've personally looked at.

Tech Resources Shortlist

While the internet is a great resources and vast amounts of both information, and software is available for cost or free, sometimes this can be a bit overwhelming. I created my "shortlist" to make it a bit easier to decide what to use.

Updated Resume

For all interested persons, I have updated my resume.

Tiny MCE and Drupal

Tiny MCE added!

Let's see if I can get this TinyMCE to work right on Drupal. I probably installed some extra files I didn't actually need.

Maybe I'll have a bit more formatting.

Community Server - ugh

Well, as a software developer, I am appalled at the usability of CMS's written in .NET if DotNetNuke, and Community Server are any measure. In my opinion, this kind of software needs to be dirt easy to dig in and create content. While tougher than dirt easy, Drupal so far has been relatively good. I also hated the crazy URLs the other products were using. Drives me batty to see crazy URLs. I know what some of you are saying, "Why does it even matter, if you just copy/paste?"

CMS Late Dive - Part 2

Well, I did make some progress. It looks like it is somehow tied to the folder that I've got it stored in. I might be able to get rid of it entirely later. Considering it is way past bedtime, there are still some annoyances with the administration. Theming the entire site doesn't seem easy, and I don't especially like how the blog looks and feels like a completely different site.

CMS Late Dive

I find it almost shameful I've not been using any content management system until now. I rolled my own simple blog poster for the solitary blog I posted about 2 years ago, which ended up being almost more of a proof of concept than anything reasonably useful. Community server seems decent, albeit a bit "clicky". I did find one thing I didn't like which is for some reason the default URL does not seem to be easily editable. If you hadn't noticed, while all the URLs work, they are annoyingly long. Upon closer investigation you may notice my urls have my domain doubled up. Ugh.
